Upper Elementary Writing Resources

Here are some of the writing resources we are using this year for my oldest child. Some are some we have used for a while (all about spelling, the writing strategies book, Rip the page, Bafflegab). Some we added this year.
At this age, I like to balance making writing fun, with building writing skills. Every day that we are home we do something called power hour. For my oldest, that is typically writing and math. We devote an hour to getting these two subjects done! It works really well! The rest of the day can unfold knowing we hit the most important things. My kids like the predictability of it and that it is limited to about an hour. I alternate working with each kid, so it is often about an hour and a half for me. I get my oldest started with something while I work on reading with my youngest, then check in with my oldest, etc.
Also, this is the FINAL FOUR DAYS of the Wild Math sale if you need ideas for fun hands-on activities for math! Use code "mathoutside" for 15% off! See samples and learn more at www.wildmathcurriculum.com
